3 Aspects Of A Garmin Running Watch That Can Help You Get Fit

August 5th, 2010

There are many reasons why individuals are unable to maintain an exercise program. Exercise takes lots of hard work and determination. A Garmin running watch can help alleviate some of these issues that arise. These 3 aspects of GPS watches may be the answers to your problems.

Motivation - A GPS watch can give you all the fitness data you need such as calories burned, speed, heart rate, distance and a lot more, all in real-time. Knowing that you just ran a mile and burnt 100 calories can be a huge motivator to get you to run another couple of miles. Garmin watches come with a program called Garmin Training Center which will allow you to chart and compare data such as distance, calories burned and heart rate. Having the knowledge that you started running 1 mile a day, a month ago and that you are now running 3 miles a day, while burning 300 calories, can also be a big motivator to keep you going.

Convenience – The easier and more convenient you make your exercise program the more likely you will be to keep it up. For example, without a Garmin watch you will have to pay attention to the distance markers where ever you run. You will also have to record your data to your computer or paper and you won’t have the motivational factor of being able to see your upward progress through charts (unless you decide to chart them yourself by hand or through Excel).

It can also be painful to maintain your workouts while on vacation or when you are in an unknown area as you won’t be able to track your distance and a lot of other important data. It can also be worrisome in unknown locations as you can get lost and have trouble getting back. With a Garmin watch, if you get lost it will direct you back to where you started.

Community – Studies have shown that having others who are also striving for the same objective can be extremely motivating in obtaining a goal. Using online communities such as Garmin Connect and Training Peaks you can talk with and compare your results with other like-minded individuals so you can be sure to attain your goals.

The Manufactured Squat Rack vs Homemade designs

August 1st, 2010

If you enjoy exercising from home because of convenience, you may need equipment and accessories to achieve the strength and definition you desire. The squat rack is perfect for toning muscles in the southern and northern region of the body and can be used any number of times throughout the day if you have one in your own home or garage. While not all choose this form of exercise, for strength enthusiasts this can be seen as a challenge and motivating factor to gain muscle and lose fat.

The Powerline Squat Rack is one of the leaders in the fitness industry and is an affordable alternative to a monthly gym membership fee. This rack is designed to hold the bar safe and secure even when it is loaded with the heaviest weight capacity. Perfect for performing flat, incline, decline presses as well as squats, curls and shoulder raises, owners will have their own personalized and customized gym in their own space available for use any hour of the day. It can be found for sale on numerous websites or at your local sporting goods stores for as little as $150.00 and has a 10-year frame warranty for a promise of quality.

For those who have a slightly lower budget, or a smaller design, homemade squat racks can be constructed by those with even little construction skill. Made of scrap hardwood and metal hardware, one can achieve their own home fitness for pennies on the dollar. With several websites on the Internet with full do-it-yourself instructions and diagrams, homeowners no longer have to rely on manufactured goods with inflated prices.

While some prefer a commercial arena to perform their exercise routine, others do not like packing for the gym and driving to the gym when they could do so within their own home. Make a smart investment and invest in a quality squat rack. But remember, rather then letting it collect dust, use it every day and tone up your frame. This is some of the best exercise to lose weight.

The Truth About Constipation

July 16th, 2010

A diet low in fibrous foods and high in refined foods coupled with lack of physical activity usually causes constipation. It is commonly disorder in the functioning of the digestive system that causes irregular bowel movements and difficulty in passing stools.

Constipation is of two types: Atonic and spastic. Atonic constipation is caused due to lack of muscle tone. It occurs when the diet has insufficient fiber along with fewer intakes of fluids and insufficient physical activity. Spastic constipation is differentiated by irregular bowel movements that may be due to nervous disorders, irritating foods or obstruction of the large bowels. Insufficient dietary roughage along with low intake of fluids causes the digested food in the colon to become dehydrated and dry, making it difficult to pass through the digestive system. This causes pressure inside the bowel and discomfort. More water is absorbed from it and harder it becomes and it is difficult in passing out .

Constipation is sometimes caused due to bad toilet habits, sitting still for long periods and long term use of laxatives. It is also a side effect of pregnancy as change in the hormonal levels has a relaxing effect on the intestines and it takes a long time for the stool to pass.

Constipation can be prevented by:

  • Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, wholegrain cereals and bread for insoluble fiber.
  • Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.
  • Certain foods like coffee, rhubarb and prunes helps to stimulate the muscles of the colon and act as natural stool softener.
  • Avoid a high intake of refined carbohydrates.
  • Regular physical activity like walking, swimming and jogging should be done.
  • Doing activities like yoga can be helpful.
  • Drinking a glass of hot milk regularly at night time before going to bed.
  • Mixing 1 teaspoon of husk in a glass of water or hot milk should be taken at night time.
  • Crushed black pepper taken with honey may relieve constipation.
  • Dried prunes soaked in water could be used to help cure constipation.
  • An extreme cure would be using enemas for constipation.

If prolonged constipation persists ,then one should consult a doctor.

The Facelift Without Surgery

July 15th, 2010

How often do you go to the gym? Twice maybe three times a week? Do you watch what you eat and constantly consider what affect the food you are putting into your body has in it? Everyone should be taking care of their bodies but it seems that there is one area that we tend to forget about.

Its not an area that we can’t see, in fact we look at it every day. What area am i talking about? The face. You may think to yourself “how can i work out my face”? Well the answer is simple. With special facial exercises, you can tone the muscles that lie underneath your face and strengthen them to help hold your face better. These exercises only take up 15 minutes of your day and can really make the difference (especially to the wrinkles).

It can be a real knock on your confidence to feel older than your years. There are wonderful things that you can do with make up but this can sometimes make it worse when the foundation starts to sink into your lines and make them even more prominent. This is why the facelift without surgery is so popular. There are millions of women out there who are performing their facial exercise routines right now and they are seeing results. It may take you a while to get used to and to find the time to fit them in but soon enough (when you get used to the routine and remember the moves) you will be able to perform them while watching TV, when sat in the bath, even when at your desk at work. You can share your experience with your friends and see who gets the best results quickest. Its a good idea to share your tips with a friend as they will be able to see your face in a different light than you and will give you an honest opinion when it comes to results.

Surgery shouldn’t be the answer to everything and we have the celebrity culture to blame for that. We pick up magazines and see perfect women who are boasting about their face lifts and how great they feel afterwards. What they don’t tell you about is the agony and financial strain that they had to go through to get there. The best way to get younger looking skin is the natural way so why not try face toning today and see how easy it can be for you to get rid of your wrinkles easily and painlessly.

Guide to Shopping for Yoga Clothes

July 9th, 2010

Yoga is one of the best health and fitness activities that you can get involved in. There are plenty of benefits to be gained from practicing yoga. You get to improve your flexibility and make your heart healthier. Your mind is also more at peace and you feel an overall feeling of wellness and health.

But before you can enjoy the many benefits of yoga, you need to learn how to do it and to practice a lot. One big consideration on how well you do yoga is the type of yoga clothes that you wear. Having the right yoga clothes can help you attain the maximum benefits of this exercise. A good pair of danskin tights is a great addition to your fitness wardrobe.

You may think that it is quite challenging to get the right yoga clothes but the truth is that it is very simple. You just need to remember some of these factors to consider when you go shopping for them.

Your yoga clothes should be loose and not restrict you from making any movements. Yoga involves a lot of different stances and positions. If your yoga clothes stop you from doing them, then you will not be able to maximize the workout. Never wear jeans or other clothing that are not meant for doing exercises in. These clothes will hinder you and will render your workout session worthless.

To enjoy yoga more, you need clothes that will allow you to get your blood flowing well. Do not get yoga clothes that are restrictive and will hinder the proper circulation of blood. The yoga clothes should be as loose as possible. Having tight-fitting clothes will not let you move as well as you need to.

Another thing about loose yoga clothes is that they keep you comfortable. You cannot enjoy the workout session if you are feeling uncomfortable and restricted. How will you enjoy the benefits of yoga if you are not doing it right? It is important that you fit your yoga clothes before you purchase them. Figure out what size you need to get so that the next time you buy, you can just get them online or from catalogs.

Your yoga clothes should absorb your sweat. You will not have fun if you feel sweaty or clammy. There are fabrics and styles of yoga clothes that are more sweat-absorbent compared to others. Look for these when you go shopping. Danskin yoga shorts are especially made for exercising in the heat.

Yoga clothes are very easy to shop for if you know what you need. Keep in mind that the important thing is comfort and you should be able to find the right yoga clothes in no time.

How Often Should You Exercise?

June 9th, 2010

Many people looking to get started with exercising are initially scared off because in their minds they have been sold on the idea that they need to exercise each and every day. The truth is their is a common agreement that a 30 minute exercise session done 2-3 times a week should be more then adequate at least for the bare minimum.

If you make a little effort you should not have much of a problem getting this done on a consistent basis. This could mean taking a brisk walk a few times a week. Or maybe getting on your bike for an extended ride around the neighborhood. If you prefer swimming then maybe jumping into the pool can be your way to get this time in.

As you see it just requires a little bit of imagination on your part. And it could be fun especially if its something you like doing. And even if it isn’t you may find out that you actually do enjoy the activity. If at all possible try to enlist the help of a friend in this activity.

Should You Get More Exercise?

June 2nd, 2010

In today’s hyper sensitive environment related to health and fitness we are all for the most part aware of the fact that we need daily exercise of one type or another. What most people don’t take into consideration is the fact that they can get this extra exercise inside of their daily routine at least for most people. It could be as simple as changing a few little habits each day that over time add up and lead to an increased amount of exercise daily.

What do we mean by this? For starters if at all possible take the stairs instead of taking the elevator. At lunch take a brisk 10-20 minute walk outside and get some fresh air. If you can walk or ride a bike to work then make that choice. If you take the train to work is it possible to walk to the train instead of driving? If you are going to the store to get a few things is it possible to walk instead of drive. As you have probably noticed none of these are difficult to do and just require a different way of looking and approaching the issue.

Fast weight loss – a true story

May 28th, 2010

Last night I was watching a talent show on TV and one of the contestants came out and said ” I lost 80 pounds in order to be fit before joining this game”. Everyone was shocked. They started wondering how did he made it. Their curiosity grew bigger when he showed them the size of clothes he used to wear 10 months ago. Everyone was impressed and the question did not take long to come: How can you lose weight? One of the judges asked the contestant and how did he manage to lose so many pounds in just 10 months. Not surprisingly the person replied that all he did was to eat less and spend a couple of hours a day on the gym. He did not use any special diets or pills but he did it the difficult but healthy way.

The audience still could not believe him and they had to show the video showing pictures of him, one year ago when he was overweight. Everyone was impressed by the courage and willingness of this person. This is a true story that can be very inspiring but also tells a big truth. To lose weight fast you have to do 2 things only. First, watch what you eat and eat less, and second exercise more. Eat less calories and burn more calories;that is the simple truth of weight loss.

The difficult part in weight loss is how you can achieve both in a short time as to lose the weight you want. Some tips to help you out:

1. Next time you go to buy food from the supermarket before buying any item read the nutrition label. Make a note of the calories the item has, as well as the percentage of fat and sugars. To assist your weight loss efforts select foods that are not only low in calorie but also low in fat and sugars. There are plenty of foods that meet this criteria.

2. When you eat your food portion make sure that you eat less food than what you used to. For example if you used to eat 2 pork chops and now you want to lose weight, eat only one. A good tip to help you is to eat more vegetables with your meals. Vegetables have more vitamins, less calories and can fill up your stomach faster.

3. Skip soft drinks. Many people suggest that you should switch regular soft drinks with diet soft drinks. We suggest that you drink as much water as you can and only 3 times per week to drink a light soft drink. You have to gradually get used to the idea that you will not drink soft drinks but healthy beverages such as water, green tea and fresh juices.

4. Stay away from miracle products. Adverts like “how to lose 10 pounds in a week” are simply fake and these products should be avoided.

How Your Fitness Schedule Should Be At The Age Of 40 And Beyond

April 27th, 2010

At the age of 40, you should have gathered so much information about health and lifestyle in your life that you should know what is good for you and what is not. Surprisingly, so many people have no idea what is good for them at this age, most assuming that the curtain has fallen on their healthy lives and now have to be contented with the fat, wrinkles, lack of energy, aging signs, fragile bones and stress. This is generally the age when everything seems to go wrong, all the undesired facial features set in and fitness goes through the window. However, if you are at this stage in life, you should know that you can still get fit over 40 by simply adopting proper diet and including exercise in your weekly schedule.

The most important thing will not be how frequently or how long you exercise but the kind of exercise you undertake and their intensities. The right workout schedule will largely be determined by your motivation to exercise since a person seeking to increase their strength or lose weight will not focus on the same exercises as someone wishing to build muscle. The right workout program for you should include both aerobic and cardiovascular exercises including the basic low intensity exercises like walking, jogging, cycling and swimming.

Everyone at any age is supposed to be involved in a workout routine to keep fit and lead healthier lives. There are so many forms of exercises that a person at any age can pick from and do to get the most out of their bodies as time progresses. The right exercises for over 50 for instance will not be the same as those of a person aged 30 just the same way a workout routine for a male aged 50 will be different from that of a female of the same age.

Find Important Information About Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder

July 30th, 2009

ADHD is an illness that starts in childhood. Some of the more common symptoms include not being able to finish something they start, not being able to sit still and acting without thinking. This is a real illness that can change the way your child acts, feels, or thinks at times. There are a number of drug and non drug related treatments for this. Even though today’s situation wouldn’t support it, drugs should be the last resort when dealing with this.

It is only when you recognize that your child is having difficulties with public outings, concentrating in school and making friends should you get them tested for ADHD. Before diagnosis parents may not have a clue on how to deal with their child.
